Look at Me — Limited Edition Prints
Self-Portrait Photography by Robert Young
“Look at Me” is a collection of playful, sometimes confronting self-portraits created and curated by Australian artist Robert Young over the past thirty years.
Each image, whether taken directly by me or directed, reflects an ongoing dialogue with identity, perception, and performance.
In a world dominated by selfie culture — a flood of fleeting, curated moments — this collection turns the mirror back on itself. Instead of a single instant captured in 1/30th of a second, Look at Me expands into a visual autobiography. Each photograph becomes a fragment of personality: sometimes vain, sometimes vulnerable, sometimes absurd.
The work oscillates between humour and honesty, between the artist’s need to be seen and his simultaneous resistance to that gaze. It speaks to the universal tension between self-presentation and self-perception — the way we all construct and deconstruct our public selves.
Playful yet introspective, the series stands as both satire and confession. It questions what it means to be looked at in an era of constant visibility.
Through subtle performance and composition, the photographs reveal a character who is at once the artist, the subject, and the observer.
“Look at Me” is an evolving meditation on identity — as fragmented, fluid, and multifaceted as the act of seeing itself.
